III.Entertainment Politics
Today, many of our politicians are also celebrities: Bong Revilla, former President Estrada and many others. Celebrity politicians are often criticized because they often lack the credentials of an efficient legislator. However a celebrity running for office does not occur in our country alone. In America, Schwarzenegger became California’s governor. In Ecuador, celebrities such as beauty queens are also running government positions
Although these people MAY have their country’s best interests at heart, it might be better for them to remain in the entertainment industry and leave the lawmaking to the people such as lawyers who has more knowledge about laws. It is also very probable that they are simply being used as promoters for the campaign of the other people in the party.
Wilfredo Lucero, the President of Ecuador’s National Congress, said, "Why are they presenting as candidates dancers, TV show presenters, people who aren't prepared to serve in the national Congress?"
Perhaps it is indeed best for the celebrities avoid politics, avoid getting involved in scandals, avoid harsh criticism, and avoid complaints.
